current teaching

This year I’m teaching a Year 12 English class, and really enjoying working with senior students in this important final year for them. We’ve been exploring the context ‘Encountering Conflict’ as well as looking at issues in the media (particularly whaling) and texts like George Orwell’s 1984.

G’Day, Warrick,
Two weeks ago I participated at a Visible Thinking workshop at the International School Amsterdam with about 60 others from around the world. It struck me that the only computers being used were those by the two presenters, my colleague and myself. I thought to myself, “Now here’s an opportunity! What if…”
I am a firm believer in the power of Visible Thinking -Project Zero and wondered how we could make it more accessible to people around the world- virtually! During a discussion with Ron about e-posssiblities, he mentioned your name and directed me to your blog. I have spent some time this afternoon reading it and pondering (school was cancelled today after last night’s storm that lashed through Nichada, just north of the city of Bangkok and left us without power or water). I would be interested to know to what extent you are connected/involved in VT.
On another note, we are a tech-rich school deeply interested in how technology improves and supports learning. We have spent quite some time this school year developing our thinking and understanding in the area of 21st Century Literacy Skills. This has been an exciting think tank and I am very fortunate to be working with such smart, passionate people.
From what I have gleaned from your blog, I think you would love being part of the Learning 2.008 Conference in Shanghai (September)

Hi Annelies,
Thanks for the comment, boy that Ron really gets around! It seems he was with us here in Melbourne not that long ago.
We have been involved with VT for several years at school through the ITHAKA project, a cross-school project focusing on Ron’s thinking dispositions. It’s been exciting stuff, and is ongoing.
We’re a technology rich school, and working at innovation and transformation with these tools.
I’d be happy to talk at more length sometime (my email address is on my home page at http://www.warrickwynne.com/) and shall definitely check out the conference site. I’ve also subscribed to your edublog.
Keep at it!
