The Wiki Arms Race
September 21, 2006 by warrick
Just like the escalating arms race of the 1960s it seems that wiki engines are tripping over themselves to offer more and better features and plug-ins and out-do each other, which, unlike the days of the Cold War, can only be good for the planet.
I’m trying to keep my page (what wiki engine) as up to date I can but with pbwiki moving to wysiwg editing, and therefore getting up there with wetpaint, and jotspot introducing new features such as calendars, blogs, filing cabinets and photo pages, the jury is still well and truly out as to which of these tools is best for learning contexts.
In some ways the choice you make will depend a lot on the context for your classroom but ease of use, ease of navigation and linking, templates, levels of security, undo and ‘version’ features remain critical I think.
