My daughter rang today and said she’d spent the afternoon at uni. lying on the grass in the sunshine eating sushi and reading Adbusters.

I was glad to hear it; that’s what uni life should be about, not always rushing off campus to your part-time job, which she does all too often, but spending some time talking, sharing ideas, reading and arguing with your friends.

I told her that in the 70s at uni. I’d lie in the afternoon sun eating coffee scrolls and reading Tracks. Some things have changed.
